Dallas Cowboys injury report for Week 3 includes several stars and a shocking sacking of the HC Mike McCarthy. ESPN NEWS’
Heading into Week 3, the Dallas Cowboys are under intense scrutiny after an excruciating defeat in their home opener. Jesse Holley is taking aim at someone higher up the hierarchy, while the most are criticizing defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and head coach Mike McCarthy.
The former wide receiver for Dallas is blaming Jerry Jones, the guy who always has to take the credit when things go right.
In particular, Holley—who won Michael Irvin’s reality football tryout at 4th and Long—says that Jones has failed in his role as general manager and that the owner ought to remove him. Jerry Jones draws a boundary with Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys contract.
Naturally, that also involves Jones, which poses a serious issue. There is no accountability when gaps aren’t sufficiently filled because the owner has crowned himself general manager, team president, option quarterback, and whatever other title he chooses to invent along the way.
Holley pointed to the issue in the backfield and criticized the Cowboys for not allowing any of their running backs to establish a rhythm. That’s a relatively new concern, unlike the problems at defensive tackle.
Jones has failed miserably when it comes to adding interior linemen, which has resulted in several losses like we saw on Sunday against New Orleans
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a crushing loss to the New Orleans Saints 44-19 in their home opener for Week 2. Dallas is suffering from injuries, as seen by the fact that multiple important players were either limited or did not practice on Wednesday, adding to the team’s problems.
Players that did not practice included Trevon Diggs, who will need to be monitored in the coming days, CeeDee Lamb, who is anticipated to play on Sunday despite having an ankle ailment, and Mazi Smith, who left practice early due to a stiff back.
Other players, like Brandin Cooks, Eric Kendricks, DeMarcus Lawrence, Jourdan Lewis, and Zack Martin, were marked as limited, primarily for rest purposes.
Zack Martin’s inclusion for vet rest is comforting, even though he was also included because of a knee issue. Mazi Smith’s back problem raises even more concerns for the Cowboys’ depth because Jordan Phillips, who was placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury, is not mentioned on the injury report.
John Stephens Jr., Malik Hooker, and Jake Ferguson are among the other players that were limited, but they should all be available for Sunday’s game.
