I’ll get a trophy for you before I go any further. Remark at Victor Osimhen Galatasaray’s unveiling
Victor Osimhen has landed in Turkey and immediately received a hero’s welcome at his new club.
Speculation over the free-scoring Nigerian striker was at fever pitch this summer and Chelsea were deemed to be the front-runners for his signature. However, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain also lurking, the Napoli star was unable to get the dream permanent move he wanted – and that meant he had to act quickly.
By the time major European clubs wrapped up their business at 11pm on Friday night, Osimhen, 25, found himself in limbo and effectively frozen out at Napoli, with now-former Chelsea frontman Romelu Lukaku on board.
It was thought that completed deal between Chelsea and the Italian team might open up the door for Osimhen to touch down in the Premier League, despite concerns around his valuation and staggering £110million release clause. Chelsea had, in theory, got themselves a £38million discount by allowing Lukaku to go in the other direction.
The Blues did not come calling for Osimhen, though, while his representatives had to chase up other options when a proposed switch to Saudi Arabia did not play out, either. It left Osimhen with limited scope beyond the cut-off as Galatasaray eventually made their move to secure a shock loan transfer past the deadline as Galatasaray eventually moved to obtain an unexpected loan transfer.
Osimhen will continue to be watched by major clubs in Europe after amassing 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and leading them to the Scudetto in 2023. There are rumors that a mid-season break clause has been added to his temporary contract. But for the time being, Galatasaray seems to be winning and everyone else to lose.
The 25-year-old jetted over to Turkey to complete his medical and the necessary formalities. Upon doing so, the ex-Wolfsburg man was mobbed by fans at the airport and as he made his way to the iconic Rams Park.
Osimhen could hardly move for press, photographers and understandably excited Galatasaray supporters wanting wanting to catch a glimpse of one of the world’s most coveted footballers. It was a party-like atmosphere, and the player himself responded by joining in with the eye-catching celebrations,
However, Chelsea could still move for Osimhen in January. According to various reports, there is a break clause in the terms of his Galatasaray loan deal that would allow him to make a permanent move elsewhere when the window re-opens.
