Pittsburgh Steelers sign a well-known player to replace Cameron Johnston.
According to reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing a new punter in the wake of Cameron Johnston’s season-ending injury.
The Steelers are reportedly signing Corliss Waitman, who played in two games with Pittsburgh in 2021, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. In 2022, he made 17 appearances for the Denver Broncos.
After being struck by a Falcons defender during a punt in the fourth quarter of the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons, Johnston suffered a season-ending injury.
Waitman’s third spell with Pittsburgh will begin this time. During his two Steelers appearances in 2021, Waitman averaged 42.6 net yards and 52.1 gross yards per punt.
Waitman recorded 46.6 gross yards per punt and 41.4 net yards in 2022 while playing for the Broncos.
He has been a member of the New England Patriots practice squad for the last two years. Earlier in the summer, the Chicago Bears signed him to a futures contract; however, he was released during final cuts. He last participated in a game in 2022.
