Without the help of his parents, Johann and Siglinde Sinner, Jannik Sinner would not be the tennis sensation he is today.

Jannik made history on June 10, 2024, when he became the first Italian player to ever hold the top spot in the Association of Tennis Professionals. Even though Jannik was successful at tennis, his parents’ line of work first encouraged him to focus on skiing.

Aug. 16, 2001, in Innichen, South Tyrol, Italy, saw the birth of Jannik, the chef Johann’s son, and Siglinde, a former waitress. In 1998, they also welcomed Mark, their older son.
Jannik’s parents got to know one another while working at Talschlüsshutte Hut, an Italian ski resort. By the age of eight, Jannik had advanced to the national giant slalom championship as runner-up.

But when he was thirteen, Jannik made the decision to become a professional tennis player. He gave his parents credit for allowing him to make such a decision. Jannik expressed his gratitude for his parents after becoming the first Italian player to win a Grand Slam singles championship at the Australian Open in almost 50 years in 2024.

Jannik remarked, “I wish my parents could be with everyone because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to.” “They never placed pressure on me when I played other sports, even when I was younger. I hope that as many young children as possible can enjoy this independence. I’m really grateful to my parents.
