Report: Olympiacos has loan Gonzaga’s Filip Petrusev to Serbian club Crvena Zvezda following his one season in Greece.

Filip Petrusev, a standout player for Gonzaga men’s basketball, may be on the move. According to a report from Eurohoops.net, his professional squad Olympiacos will reportedly negotiate a contract extension and “loan” the 6-foot-10 post to another team. After joining the squad in November, Petrusev assisted Olympiacos in making it to the EuroLeague Final Four this past season. In 22 games, he averaged 7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds with former Gonzaga guard Nigel Williams-Goss by his side.

After spending one season in Greece, Petrusev, who assisted the Serbian national team in winning the bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris, has been connected to a reunion with Crvena Zvezda, a Serbian club. During the 2022–2023 season, Petrusev assisted Zvezda in winning both the Radiovoj Koraz Cup and the AdmiralBet Basketball League of Serbia. Given that Petrusev is a Serbian player, Zvezda head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos commented, “Of course he is welcome.” “But since Olympiacos has a contract, it’s up to him, not us.”

During the Paris Games, Petrusev averaged 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and a 67.6% field goal percentage, which helped Serbia win. With a crucial steal in the closing seconds, he helped the Serbs defeat Australia in the quarterfinals and advance to the semifinals with nine points and five rebounds.

The 24-year-old Petrusev made his NBA debut with the Philadelphia 76ers on October 26 of the previous season. He was later transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the James Harden trade. After playing in two games, Petrusev was dismissed by the Kings, who acquired him from the Clippers.

Rasir Bolton, a former guard for Gonzaga, inked a deal with MMK Spartak Subotica in Serbia in May. In the highest flight of Serbian basketball, Subotica will play Zvezda, which placed first in the ABA League First flight and took home the Serbian Cup the previous year.
