What does Gonzaga’s collegiate athletics program hold in 2024/2025? “You must remain fucosed  about everything.” Mark Few assured management…..

The next round of conference realignment seems certain, at least at some time in the near future, as Big 12 presidents and athletic directors take into consideration conference commissioner Brett Yormark’s proposal to bring UConn into the league.

Former Gonzaga men’s basketball All-American Dan Dickau stated, “I do think there’s gonna be more conference realignment over these next couple of years as NIL continues to flush out a little bit more.” “That conversation literally shifts every three months, if not more quickly.”

The next school’s conference membership is never set in stone, but you can always count on football and TV networks to be at the forefront of most decisions. With the possible exception of UConn, which would need to commit some funds to its football program before being able to join the Big 12 by 2031. As early as 2026, the other Olympic sports at the school would participate.

Some of the Big 12 leaders’ misgivings about Huskies football put into perspective their possible feelings about adding Gonzaga when Yormark first brought up the notion approximately a year ago. If a school decides to join the Big 12 without including football, it will not be able to earn the entire $31.7 million that the other league members will from the conference’s lucrative television contract. UConn, one of the final two independent FBS programs in the nation, will therefore need to dedicate more resources to its faltering football program, which has a 10-27 record over the last three seasons (Notre Dame).

Moving from Gonzaga to a strong conference would be historic for this non-football school.

Even while that doesn’t seem possible right now, in this world of collegiate athletics, you never know.

“You have to be vigilant about everything if you’re Gonzaga’s athletic department, head coach Mark Few, and staff,” Dickau stated. “You’re going to need to make a decision if things start to trend in a way that suggests you risk falling behind if you’re not in a power conference. It is absolutely not what you want to be gazing in from the outside.

As things stand right now, the Bulldogs are committed to the West Coast Conference. After the WCC accepted Grand Canyon and Seattle as full-time members beginning in 2025–2026, negotiations with the Big 12 ceased (a move that conference commissioner Stu Jackson said had Gonzaga’s full support). Although the Big East has previously been considered,  Regarding the league’s TV deal with Fox, which is supposedly not in favor of UConn entering the Big 12, there are a ton of issues to sort out.

“I think the commissioners in the leagues—the people in charge—are still actively monitoring Gonzaga’s circumstances, as they ought to be,” Dickau remarked.
